5 Tips to Sustainably Detox Your Wardrobe

Did online shopping get the better of you during the pandemic? Or have you been inspired by London Fashion Week?  Now is a good time to take a step back, reassess and sustainably give your wardrobe a detox.

Sustainably Detox Your Wardrobe

Let Our HOMEtainers Help

Need some advice? Check out our HOMETAINMENT wardrobe experiences from our HOMEtainer and wardrobe fairy Kathi. Kathi and her team are a sustainable detox service, saving the planet one garment at a time. It's something we can definitely get on board with! Choose from offers three experiences: a Half Day Closet DetoxFull Day Closet Detox and a Closet Audit. You'll be taught how to detox your wardrobe and they will take care of selling the clothes you no longer wear. Meaning you can reinvest the money back into your new sustainable wardrobe. Plus they will teach you all their insider tips and tricks for finding the perfect outfit every day.

Buy Quality Not Quantity

Whilst it might be more expensive initially, investing in classic quality pieces that you know you’ll be able to wear time and time again will save you buying more in the long run. This  is not only better for your purse but also the planet. Especially as it is estimated that around 336,000 tonnes of textiles end up in UK landfills every year.

Make Sure You’re Actually Going to Wear What You Buy

Rather than feeling like you have to have everything in your wardrobe, just invest what you’re going to wear in your daily life. If you spend more time at HOME invest in luxury loungewear rather than that tailored suit you might only wear once or twice a year.

Anything You No Longer Wear, Resell, Donate or Upcycle

We’ve all got those pieces in the wardrobe that we cling onto saying we’ll wear again and then we never do. Rather than letting them take up valuable space, resell or donate them. That way you detox your wardrobe, save space and make some money either for yourself or for a charity! It’s a win win. Handy with a sewing machine? Then why not upcycle or refashion your clothes? Check out Love Your Clothes for ideas!

Work With What You Have

It can be tempting to look at an overly full wardrobe, get overwhelmed, close the doors and go out and buy something else. Instead, take stock of what you already have. Apps like Stylebook let you create a visual inventory of all your clothes so you can plan outfits with your clothes and get inspiration for new styles. Or you can look at the likes of Pinterest for inspiration and to see how others are styling the same piece.
